Background

I am a hands-on IT technician focused on networking, VoIP, and systems administration. Over more than a decade of field experience, I’ve moved from service technician roles into managing installations, designing networks, and mentoring other technicians. Today I operate a Proxmox-based home lab where I build and test real-world networking solutions using Windows Server 2022 and multiple Linux distributions. My home lab is where theory becomes practice: I design VLAN-segmented networks, validate firewall rules, and stress-test services before recommending production changes.

My professional experience includes deploying and supporting cloud-hosted and hybrid VoIP systems, integrating Grandstream ATAs and IP phones, and conducting thorough site assessments to ensure quality and compatibility. I’m comfortable with Unifi and Omada SDN platforms, Ubiquiti PTP wireless bridges, and structured cabling projects that demand precise execution and adherence to standards. I routinely use tools like Fluke toner/probe for accurate cable tracing and verification, and I plan installations to minimize disruption while maximizing reliability.

I bring a practical, customer-focused mindset to technical problems. In prior roles I led service teams, oversaw device fleets, and coordinated complex installs while minimizing downtime. I explain technical decisions clearly to customers and train end-users and new technicians so solutions are adopted successfully. My background in field service taught me to translate technical detail into business value — reducing call time, improving uptime, and delivering measurable improvements to communications and operations.

Continuous learning drives everything I do. I hold CompTIA A+ and ITIL-4 Foundation certifications and pursue new credentials and hands-on lab projects to deepen my skillset. I regularly study security best practices and experiment with virtualization and containerized services. I approach each project with curiosity, discipline, and a practical focus on delivering resilient, secure, and supportable systems.

My appreciation for privacy and security has driven me towards exploring Free and Open-Source Software.

I have developed a well-rounded set of skills that enable me to successfully engage with business clients in a professional manner. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹While I train and work toward achieving computer and network certifications, I am starting a small business, which will be focused on providing technology and IT solutions to residential and small business clients.

I’m available to connect on LinkedIn and happy to discuss how I can support your team’s networking and communication objectives. My focus is on building dependable, maintainable networks while continuously improving through self-directed learning and real-world practice. Let's build reliable networks together.
